Edward Kimberly and Mary Cavenaugh

Edward Kimberly was sentenced to 7 years transportation for grand larcency (theft of several parcels of muslins from a milliner’s shop) on 23 March 1783 at Coventry, Warwickshire. Edward spent time on “Censor” & “Justina” Hulks before being transported on “Scarborough”, departing 13 May 1787 and arriving Port  Jackson January 1788.

Edward Kimberly was christened 23 December 1764 in Warwickshire and died 24 November 1829.  Buried at Rokeby on 28 November 1829.

Mary Cavenaugh was christened 4 May 1775 in London and died 15 September 1851 in Clarence Plains.  Buried at Rokeby on 18 September 1851.

Edward Kimberly married Mary Cavenaugh married on 20 October 1791 in Sydney Cove before being transferred to Norfolk Island.  “Settler’s Blocks on Norfolk Island 1796" records that Edward Kimberly had 12 acres (Lot No.60) and 60 acres (Lot No.67).

Together they had 4 children:
Maria Kimberly who was born 6 October 1792 on Norfolk Island and died 13 February 1851.  Maria married Daniel Harmsworth Stanfield on 17 October 1808 in Hobart at the age of 16 years.

Hannah, Mary and William Kimberly were all born on Norfolk Island.

EDWARD KIMBERLEY was sentenced to seven years transportation for grand larceny (theft of several parcels of muslins from a milliner’s shop) at Coventry, Warwickshire on 23 March 1783.  He spent time on the Ceres or Censor and Justinia Hulks before embarking on the transport Scarborough.  At Sydney on 20 October 1791 Edward married Mary Cavenor/Cavenagh off the Lady Juliana.  Both were sent to Norfolk Island, where Edward settled on 12 acres of land at Queenborough.  Within a year he was selling grain to stores.

"Settlers Lots on Norfolk Island 1796" shows Edward Kimberly was granted 12 acres (Parcel 60), also 60 acres (Parcel 67). Parcel 67 is the Lot with the pointy part at the bottom of the map.

Google Maps helps to identify Edward Kimberly's land today. Easily located was the house with the orange roof to the left of Norfolk Island.

Daniel Stanfield & Maria Kimberly

Edward & Mary Kimberly and their 3 youngest children were relocated to Van Diemen's Land on “City of Edinburgh” on 3 September 1808 and arrived Van Diemen’s Land 2 October 1808.
Edward was given 140 acres (Lot No.3) and 40 acres (Lot No.9) in Clarence Plains, Tasmania.

Their eldest child Maria Kimberly was relocated to Van Diemen's Land  on "City of Edinburgh" on 3 September 1808, with Daniel Stanfield & Alice Harmsworth and family, recorded as wife of Daniel Stanfield (Jnr). 

Daniel Stanfield married Maria Kimberly in Hobart on 17 October 1808 at 16 years of age.

Together they had 11 children:
Mary Ann Stanfield (1811-1866), Sarah Stanfield (1822-1890), Daniel Stanfield (1829-1902), Ann Stanfield, William Stanfield, John Stanfield, Maria Stanfield, Elizabeth Stanfield, Heather Stanfield, Alice Stanfield, Emily Stanfield.

Mary Ann Stanfield born 24 September 1811 in Clarence Plains and died 2 December 1866 in Clarence, Tasmania.  Mary Ann Stanfield married Joseph Chipman born 1805 and died 18 October 1871 in Clarence Plains. They had 8 children.

Sarah Stanfield born 24 August 1822 in Hobart and died 8 August 1890 in Georges Bay, Tasmania. Sarah Stanfield married Thomas Ransom born 1821 and died 20 March 1904 in Launceston.  They had 9 children.

Daniel Stanfield was born 13 March 1829 in Clarence, Tasmania and died 27 July 1902 in Rokeby, Tasmania.  Daniel Stanfield married Elizabeth Sarah “Betsy” Morrisby, born 19 October 1830 in Clarence and died 12 December 1909 in Hobart on 12 August 1852.  They had 10 children.

Elizabeth Sarah "Betsy" Morrisby was the daughter of Elizabeth Mary Mack born 23 August 1808 in Hobart and died 19 October 1830 in Hobart who married Henry Morrisby born 11 May 1803 on Norfolk Island and died 25 March 1856 in Rokeby, Tasmania.    Elizabeth Mack and Henry Morrisby married on 20 October 1824.   Elizabeth died in childbirth while having Elizabeth Sarah "Betsy" Morrisby on 19 October 1830.   Elizabeth Mack was orphaned because her mother died just 2 months after she had given birth to Elizabeth in 1808.  Henry Morrisby was the son of James Morrisby and Ann Brooks.

Edward Kimberly & wife Mary Cavanaugh with their 3 children Hannah, Mary and William were relocated to Van Diemen's Land on "City of Edinburgh" on 3 September 1808.

Daniel Stanfield and wife Alice Harmsworth with children Daniel, Mary, Sarah, Thomas and William.  Maria Kimberly is listed as wife of Daniel Stanfield even though they did not marry until 17 October 1808, 2 weeks after they were relocated to Van Diemen's Land on "City of Edinburgh", arriving on 2 October 1808.
