Calvert and Macdougall families

 
William Calvert born 1777 in Yorkshire and died 1863 in Sydney.  William married Hannah Farrar on 13 March 1799 in Spofforth, Yorkshire, England.

Together they had 7 children:
1. David Farrar Calvert born 14 October 1801 in St. Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire. David married Ann Goodall on 28 March 1830 in St. Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire.

2. Hannah Calvert born 23 May 1804 in St. Peter's, Leed.  Hannah married Samuel Heald on 4 November 1829 in St.Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire.

3. Mary Farrar Calvert born 9 December 1807 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.

4. Christopher Calvert born 1 August 1809 in Leeds and died 8 July 1876 in Rokeby, Tasmania, Australia.  Christopher married Hannah Watson on 16 January 1837 in Holy Trinity, Hobart, Tasmania.

5. Mary Ann Calvert born 1813 in Leeds and died 21 May 1877 in Melbourne, Australia.  Mary married Thomas Wellard on 11 February 1836 in Hobart, Tasmania.

6. Sarah Calvert born 20 September 1815 in St.Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire and died 10 July 1882 in Dimboola, Victoria, Australia. Sarah married Archibald C.Macdougall on 9 September 1837 in St David's Church, Hobart, Tasmania.

7. Albina Louise Calvert born 14 August 1820 in St Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire married Thomas Martyn on 7 March 1838 in Hobart, Tasmania.


Christopher Calvert and Hannah Watson

Hannah Watson was born 1820 and died 5 February 1911. Hannah and Christopher were buried in St Matthew's Churchyard, Rokeby, Tasmania.  Tombstone photo.

Together they had 11 children:
1. Hannah Calvert born 1838 in Geelong, Victoria, Australia and died 1 March 1855 in Ralphs Bay, Tasmania.  Hannah was buried at St Matthew's Churchyard, Rokeby, Tasmania.

2. William Thomas Calvert was born 18 April 1840 in Geelong, Victoria and died 6 August 1935 in South Arm, Tasmania.  William married Caroline Fisher 17 May 1865, Catherine Morrisby 28 September 1869 and Emma Florence Westrope 26 August 1913.

3. John Calvert born 1843 in Geelong, Victoria and died 6 September 1932 in South Arm, Tasmania.
John married Elizabeth Eldridge Baily on 16 June 1869 in Holy Trinity, Hobart, Tasmania.

4. Christopher Calvert born 13 July 1845 in Hobart and died 11 June 1923 in Hobart.  Christopher married Elizabeth Maria Alomes on 19 October 1869 in Hobart, Tasmania.

5. David Calvert born 23 July 1848 in Cambridge, Tasmania and died 18 November 1936 in Sandford, Tasmania.  David married Elisa Walker Morrisby on 18 December 1880 in Hobart, Tasmania.

6. Thomas Calvert born 29 April 1851 in Sandford, Tasmania and died 4 March 1941 in Surges Bay, Tasmania. Thomas married Mary Matilda Watson on 3 February 1880 in Muddy Plains, Tasmania.

7. Watson Calvert born 5 August 1853 in Tasmania and died 1947 in South Arm, Tasmania.  Watson married Florence Emily McGowan on 28 September 1881 in Tasmania.

8. Annie Calvert born 20 December 1855 in Sandford, Tasmania and died 8 February 1922 in Sandford, Tasmania.  Annie married Orlando George Morrisby.

9. Hannah Calvert born 21 March 1858 in Sandford, Tasmania and died August 1947 in South Arm.

10. Henry Calvert born 7 October 1862 in Ralphs Bay, Tasmania and died March 1948 in South Arm, Tasmania.  Henry married Rose Quinn.

11. Robert Calvert was their 11th child.


William Calvert & Catherine Morrisby.

William Thomas Calvert married Catherine Morrisby on 28 September 1869 in Christina Morrisby's home in Rokeby.  Catherine was the daughter of Henry Morrisby and Christina Smith and grand daughter of James Morrisby and Ann Brooks.  William & Catherine had 9 children.  

Their son William Henry Fairfax Calvert married Gwenneth Lenore Macdougall born 16 March 1892 in Launceston, Tasmania  and died 31 October 1982 in Hobart, Tasmania.  William married Gwenneth Macdougall on 31 October 1925 in Hobart, Tasmania, the grand daughter of Sarah Calvert who married Archibald Macdougall.  William & Gwenneth did not have children although William had 3 children to his first wife, Winifred Wright.


David Calvert married Eliza Walker Morrisby on 18 December 1880 in Hobart, Tasmania.  Eliza was the daughter of Henry and Christina Smith and grand daughter of James Morrisby and Ann Brooks.  David & Eliza had 7 children.


Annie Calvert married Orlando Morrisby on 27 August 1885 in Clarence, Tasmania.  Orlando was the son of George James Morrisby and his 1st wife Sarah Wood, grandson of John Morrisby and Emmaline Sophia Carter Alomes, great grandson of James Morrisby and Ann Brooks.   Sarah Wood's sister Jane Wood married Robert Carter Alomes, brother of Emmaline Sophia Carter Alomes & son of Elizabeth Bellett & Robert Alomes.  Annie & Orlando had 2 children.


Christopher Calvert married Elizabeth Maria Alomes on 19 October 1869 in Hobart. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Alomes and Jane Wood, sister of Sarah Wood who married George J.Morrisby.  Christopher & Elizabeth had 5 children.



Sarah Calvert and Archibald C.Macdougall

Sarah Calvert born 20 September 1815 in St.Peter, Leeds, Yorkshire and died 10 July 1882 in Dimboola, Victoria, Australia.  Sarah married Archibald C.Macdougall, born 26 September 1815 in Campbelltown, Argyll, Scotland and died 2 April 1870 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 9 September 1837 in St.David's Church, Hobart, Tasmania.  

Together they had 10 children:
1. Archibald Henry Macdougall born 16 February 1841 in Adelaide, South Australia and died 18 August 1895 in Melbourne. Archibald married Lavinia Richards on 1 January 1866 in Windsor, Melbourne.  Archibald had 2 children with Lavinia Richards, and 2 more children with her sister Eliza Richards.

2. Jessie Hannah Macdougall born 23 October 1842 in Adelaide, South Australia and died 11 August 1843 in Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.

3. Davinia Louisa Macdougall born 11 April 1844 in Adelaide, South Australia and died 7 October 1922 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.  Davinia married George Thomas Geer in 1869.  Davinia & George had 7 children.  George Geer became an Archdeacon in the Anglican Church.

4. John Campbell Macdougall born 21 January 1846 in Longbottom, Adelaide and died 1889 in Balmain, New South Wales.  John married Mary Ann Falkiner on 7 January 1875 in Maitland, New South Wales, Australia.  John & Mary had 6 children.  John was a Christian Minister.

5. James Daniel Macdougall born 17 August 1847 in Adelaide and died 26 August 1847 in Adelaide.

6. William Arthur Macdougall born 15 April 1849 in Hobart, Tasmania and died 2 July 1930 in Hobart.  William married Sarah Ann Allason born 17 August 1850 and died 21 August 1941 in Hobart, on 15 April 1876 in Hobart, Tasmania.  William & Sarah had 6 children.

7. Charles Frederick Eggleston Macdougall born 19 October 1850 in Hobart and died 17 May 1873 in Benin River, West Coast of Africa.

8. Edward Dermid Macdougall born 27 October 1852 in Clarence Plains, Tasmania and died 22 March 1853 in Hobart, Tasmania.

9. Unnamed Macdougall born 31 January 1854 and died 31 January 1854 in Hobart, Tasmania.

10. Walter Cummin Macdougall born 1855 in Hobart and died 26 January 1917 in Balmain, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.  Walter married Emma Jane Parkinson born in 1855 and died 1 October 1941 on 4 January 1882 in Petersham, Sydney.  Walter & Emma had 7 children.  Walter was the Proprietor of "Balmain Observer".


Sarah Allason and William Arthur Macdougall 

Together they had 6 children:
1. Leslie Stuart Macdougall born 4 March 1877 in Hobart, Tasmania and died 8 February 1949 in Brighton, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.  Leslie married Beatrice Helen Louise Wells born 9 September 1888 in Formby, Tasmania and died 8 November 1983, on 9 September 1912 in Hobart. Leslie & Beatrice had 3 daughters.  Leslie was a Methodist Minister.

2. Hugh Campbell Macdougall born 17 February 1881 in Launceston, Tasmania and died 7 August 1913 in Launceston. Hugh died from T.B.

3. Ruby Frederica Macdougall born 3 September 1882 in Launceston & died 17 July 1972 in Hobart.  Ruby was Single.

4. Olive May Oban Macdougall born 5 October 1888 in Launceston and died 14 November 1975 in Hobart, Tasmania.  Olive was Single.  She was a Farmer on King Island.

5. Ila Aisbett Macdougall born 5 October 1888 in Hobart and died 24 September 1960 in Hobart.  Ila was a twin to Olive.  Ila married Leonard Augustus Griffiths who died 11 October 1932 on 5 December 1916 in Hobart.  Ila & Leon had 2 children.

6. Gwenneth Lenore Macdougall born 16 March 1892 in Launceston and died 31 October 1982 in Hobart.  Gwenneth married William Henry Fairfax Calvert born 14 February 1872 in Ralphs Bay, Tasmania and died 8 June 1942 in Hobart.  William was the son of William Thomas Calvert and Catherine Morrisby, grandson of Henry Morrisby and Christina Smith, and great grandson of James Morrisby and Ann Brooks.

James Morrisby and Ann Brooks had a son John Morrisby and Emmaline Alomes, who had a son John Robert Morrisby born 1832 and died 1923 and married Amelia Rumney born 1842 and died 11 April 1913, on 18 June 1863 in Clarence, Tasmania.  They had a son Alfred Rowland Morrisby born 25 January 1883 in Ralphs Bay, Tasmania and died 18 April 1957 in Hobart who married Agnes H.Rosina Wood born 1895 and died 12 January 1919 in Hobart, on 17 March 1915 in Sydney.  Alfred & Agnes Morrisby had 2 children Russell & Nance Morrisby.  (Tombstone photos).

After Agnes died Alfred Morrisby married Amy Neylan  born 1889 and died 15 May 1968 in Hobart, in 1922. Reading Leslie Macdougall’s 1926 diary, it records Leslie and his family visited Alfred & Amy. In 1960 Beatrice Macdougall, Winsome Petfield and daughters Joy & Dawn visited the Morrisby property and Dawn rode their ex-race horse at 13 years of age. Amy was a lifelong friend of Beatrice Macdougall. 


Sarah Allason’s mother Elizabeth Naisbett born 2 May 1811 and died 15 October 1871 married No.1 William Davidson, born 1804 Newcastle-on-Tyne, Northumberland, England and died 9 July 1837 in Hobart on 1 September 1829.  Together they had 5 children.  In 1828 William Davidson was appointed the first Superintendant of the Botanical Gardens in Hobart. Elizabeth married No.2 Edward Allason born 18 May 1819 and died 25 November 1888 in Launceston, Tasmania on 16 January 1843.  Together they had 6 children, one of them being Sarah Allason who married Archibald Macdougall who had a grand daughter Gwenneth who married William Thomas Calvert.  William was the son of Sarah Calvert's brother Christopher Calvert.
